My inspiration behind the block was myself. I just wanted to use a cool picture of me that had potential to have great shading. I think other artists just wanted a cool picture with no plan behind it. You can tell its my artwork because I used a lot of shading. I tried to make the shading as real as possible and tried to show the flow of my hair. The main goal of this piece was to make the sunglasses stand out from the rest of the block and show creativity with my shading.
What went well in my piece at this time was carving out my shape. I was really skeptical on cutting out the shape at first. After I was done it came out really nice. After that I was really excited to paint it. The part that I struggled with at first was selecting the kind of cardboard I wanted to use. That process took me what seemed like fo
From this piece I was able to criticize my own work and change it for the better. From the very beginning to the end my shape went through transformations and ended great. If I could start over again and do something differently I would probably change the color and size. I would change the size because when I was done it looked a little smaller than everyone else's but I didn't care because it still looked awesome. The color was kind of the same thing too, a lot of people had the same colors as mine but I kept those colors because those colors are the ones that made my shape look the way I wanted it to. I think the shape turned out the way I wanted it to in the end, I was very surprised actually. We presented our projects together in a way that created balance. My biggest risk was probably painting the green on it. At first it wasn't going good but after I put the 2nd coat on it turned out good.
When I got to this stage I didn't really change much. The only thing I changed was the color of my shape and that was because my opinion of how it looked changed. So nobody else really affected my decision to change this. The part of the shape that came out really successful was the shape itself. At first I didn't think I was going to be able to cut out the shape right at first but the more I got to it the more it started to look like the drawing in the first couple steps. The shape came out looking almost exactly like how I had drawn it. My inspiration behind this project at first was to capture a certain mood with my carving in the block. I think everyone else just tried to carve something that looked cool. I wasn't really sure how to do this project and put my own way of art into at first. But after my first try I think I started to get it figured out. I really like using shade and balance in my art. I think I tried to capture the shading of the facial features in this and failed on the first try. My main goal for this piece now is to get it to look good and for people to think it is properly balanced.
When I first started this project I wasn't sure which picture to do. I picked a picture of my friend reed because I wanted my project to have a happy mood. The most difficult part of this project so far was choosing what picture to use. The easiest part was putting the paper on the block. There wasn't very much skill used in this process except knowing what picture to use to capture a certain mood with whoever is looking at my work.
